Exposición colectiva de la selección de artistas por Drap Art del concurso ‘upcycling’.
El Concurso de Diseño Upcycling se realiza con la Asociación de Amigos y Comerciantes de plaza Real y su objetivo es involucrar el sector de la restauración en un proyecto artístico, social y de sostenibilidad ambiental y un intento de crear un vínculo entre los artistas, entidades, vecindario y comercio de Ciutat Vella, quizás el distrito que antes estaba más afectado por el turismo masivo y actualmente por las consecuencias del Covid-19.
El concurso upcycling crea nuevos vínculos relacionales, y replanteamientos sociales, económicos y ambientales, por las cuales el Concurso puede servir de punto de partida, de reflexión, de encuentro y de debate.
El concurso se realiza con un objeto elegido por cada establecimiento participando de entre los materiales que tiran cada día, pero que los da pena tirar.
Cómo funciona?
El upcycling consiste al aprovechar materiales reciclados para crear productos que tienen un valor mayor del que tenía el material original.
Transformar residuos en objetos de valor.

«Dentro del estilo de mis creaciones ‘escultóricas’, la pieza que presento al concurso es un ‘assamblage’ que une dos obras sin relación aparente; un trozo de la caja de huevos que me recuerda a una máscara de Pinocho, de estilo muy arcaico, (que encontré cuando la deconstruí inconscientemente, tuve que destruir el envoltorio de cartón para encontrarla, literalmente) y una decorativa figura de Pinocho de madera, de fabricación industrial que encontré casualmente y me dio la idea de la obra.
El resultado es un Pinocho que recuerda a las figuras de la Comedia del Arte, también a alguna figura de Henry Fuseli o incluso a un personaje salido de los caprichos de Goya.
Me preguntaba qué sentido inconsciente tendría la figura de Pinocho que había construido deconstruyendo y asemejando en apariencia de manera azarosa, pero al poco tiempo de haberla acabado entendí que era un reflejo inconsciente de estos mandatarios que hemos sufrido desde el siglo XX y XXI que basan sus acciones en mentiras para favorecer los intereses de minorías que generan enormes sufrimientos en la humanidad como por ejemplo la desigualdad económica, las guerras o el cambio climático.»

Collective exhibition of the selection of artists by Drap Art of the ‘upcycling’ contest.
The Upcycling Design Contest is carried out with the Association of Friends and Merchants of Plaza Real and aims to involve the catering sector in an artistic, social and environmental sustainability project and an attempt to create a link between artists, entities, neighborhood and commerce of Ciutat Vella, perhaps the district that was previously most affected by mass tourism and currently by the consequences of Covid-19.
The upcycling contest creates new relational links, and social, economic and environmental rethinking, for which the contest can serve as a starting point for reflection, meeting and debate.
The contest is carried out with an object chosen by each establishment participating from among the materials that they throw away every day, but that they are too embarrassed to throw away.
How does it work?
Upcycling consists of taking advantage of recycled materials to create products that have a higher value than the original material. Transforming waste into objects of value.

«Within the style of my ‘sculptural’ creations, the piece I present to the contest is an ‘assamblage’ that joins two works without apparent relation; a piece of the egg carton that reminds me of a Pinocchio mask, very archaic style, (that I found when I deconstructed it unconsciously, I had to destroy the cardboard wrapper to find it, literally) and a decorative wooden Pinocchio figure, of industrial manufacture that I found by chance and gave me the idea of the work.
The result is a Pinocchio reminiscent of the figures of the Commedia dell’Arte, also of a figure of Henry Fuseli or even a character out of the whims of Goya.
I wondered what unconscious sense would have the figure of Pinocchio that I had built deconstructing and resembling in appearance in a random way, but soon after finishing it I understood that it was an unconscious reflection of these rulers that we have suffered since the twentieth and twenty-first century who base their actions on lies to favor the interests of minorities that generate enormous suffering in humanity such as economic inequality, wars or climate change.»
